rounds will represent India in White &
Case International Rounds
held every spring
in
Washington, D.C, which attracts participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80
countries.
Named after the Philip Caryl Jessup, this competition is claimed to be the largest
and
most prestigious moot court competition in
the
world. Jessup served as assistant secretary-general of the United Nations Relief and RehabilitationAdministration (UNRRA) conferencein 1943 andthe UnitedNationsMonetary and FinancialConference
(the"Bretton Woods" conference)in 1944. President Harry S. Truman appointed Jessupas
United States delegate to the United Nations in 1951. Shortly after John F. Kennedy took office as president, Jessup was appointed asthe US candidate for the International Court of
Justice and served the office from 1961 – 1970.
As many as 14 teams from North India had participated in this
competition, including teams from
National Law University, Jodhpur, Rajeev Gandhi
National University of Law, Patiyala; Gujarat National LawUniversity, Gandhinagar, Faculty of Law, Delhi University etc. Event commenced from 16th of
January
with an
Inaugural
Ceremony. The Chief Guest of the Ceremony was Mr. Anant Kumar Mishra, Cabinet Minister
for Health, Government of UtterPradesh and the sessionwas presided over by Hon’ble Mr Justice V. C. Mishra, Chairman, State Law Commission, Uttar Pradesh. The Valedictory Session commenced the next day, i. e. on 17th January. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was
Hon’ble Mr. Justice S. N. Shukla, Judge, Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench and was
presided by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Vishnu Sahay, Member, U. P
State Human Rights Commission.

National law university, Jodhpur emerged as champions in Philip C. Jessup International Moot
Court Competition, North India Rounds . NLU, Jodhpur was represented by Sannoy Das,
Ambika Gupta, Aman , Arpita Sarkar and Manu Sanan. The two day event witnessed a fierce
competition among 14 teams, out of which NLU, Jodhpur and Campus Law Centre, Delhi
University paved the way for White & Case International rounds to be held in Washington, D.C.
from 17th to 21st March 2010. The finals was judged by a five judge bench comprising Hon'ble
Mr. Justice S.N. Shukla, Judge Allahabad High Court, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Vishnu Sahai
Member, U P State Human Rights Commission, Shri Baburam, Retd. IAS Officer ,Mr
Yashovardhan Swarup , Advocate, Lucknow High Court & Mr. Rishabh Sancheti, Advocate, Jodhpur High Court.
The Best Student Advocate prize of the competition as well as finals
was won by Mr. Sannov Das from NLU Jodhpur whereas the Best Memorial was bagged by
Amity Law School, I.P. University, New Delhi.
